One resident was taken to hospital after taking medication 'like smarties'
A Nottingham care home has closed down after a health watchdog was told by its manager that residents' lives were being put at risk. A damning report by The Care Quality Commission uncovered unsanitary living conditions and a string of safety issues when visiting Ashleigh House, Sherwood, in May.
The CQC said it carried out the unannounced inspection partly due to concerns received about neglectful care and environmental safety issues at the service. The watchdog said Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also visited on the day of the inspection and served a prohibition notice due to "serious" fire safety concerns.
"This failure of organisational oversight and governance created additional risks to the safety and effectiveness of service provision. The manager acknowledged the severity of the concerns, they told us, 'They [Provider] are risking people's lives here. Nothing would make me happier than to move these people out so I know they will be safe.'"
