Angry car production bosses have warned the Prime Minister that he faces losing billions in UK investment and causing thousands of jobs losses if he delays the ban on new petrol and diesel cars until 2035
: “If the Prime Minister wants to risk billions in investment and thousands of job cuts in the UK motor industry then he’s found the perfect strategy to achieve that. This situation is an utter mess.”
“We, as well as many others I’m sure, will look elsewhere for future investment if we cannot rely on a stable policy from the UK.” But another executive at a leading manufacturer said: “It’s pretty rare that our entire industry is in complete agreement, but on this matter we are. We made our views very clear to the Prime Minister this morning, and I know many of our rival manufacturers have as well.
“That does not encourage the motor industry to invest in a UK that does not know where it’s driving policy.”
