It's a win for those who feared the distance to the nearest bank would see them lose out on essential service

A Barclays branch in Lancashire is set to relocate following concerns from elderly and disadvantaged residents that they would face a 10-mile round trip to the nearest bank following its closure.

The Market Street closure meant that residents would find their nearest bank in Lancaster - almost 10 miles away. Now, after talks between Carnforth Town Council and Barclays representatives, the bank will relocate to the Royal Station Hotel on Market Street and will be available to customers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The new arrangements will be launched by the Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Smith on Tuesday 18th October. The Town Mayor said: "It is pleasing to see Barclay's Bank maintaining its support for customers in Carnforth and surrounding areas, especially given that this will be provided using space made available by one of our businesses.

Lindsay McAlice-Kennedy, Barclays Customer Care Director, commented: “We’re delighted we’ll be able to operate from the Royal Station Hotel in Carnforth from 18th October onwards and they have made us feel very welcome.
