Police have released footage of a car suspected to have been used by gunmen who shot Detective Chief InspectorThe high-profile Police Service of Northern Ireland officer was shot “from close range” at around 8pm last Wednesday in front of children, including his own son, after coaching a youth football match.in connection with the attack, which police say is under investigation as being terror related. Mr Caldwell is in hospital in a “critical but stable” condition.
Footage from CCTV cameras shows the car leaving the Killyclogher Road sports complex immediately after the shooting, before being abandoned and set on fire on Racolpa Road.Det Chief Supt Corrigan said: “We have established that the car was purchased in Ballyclare on Wednesday 8 February and was observed travelling towards Belfast on the M2 Motorway that night.
“I am also appealing for anyone who observed anything suspicious in the Racolpa Road area on Wednesday evening.” He added: “I continue to ask for the public’s help to bring those responsible for this senseless attack to justice.” “We would say this, you still have to try and live a normal life day-to-day, one of these days the IRA will be waiting.”
The Police Federation for Northern Ireland, which represents rank and file officers, thanked the people of Omagh and the political parties for their support.
