Jeremy Hunt wants to know what is being done to make sure prices in the economy fairly reflect the market conditions as inflation proves more sticky than had been expected.
The chancellor has called in the country's main consumer watchdogs for talks as part of efforts to help curb the UK's inflation problem.
Jeremy Hunt will question the regulators for the energy , water and telecoms sectors, along with the Competition and Markets Authority and City watchdog the Financial Conduct Authority .
They insisted shoppers had been shielded from the worst of the price increases - largely a consequence of the war in Ukraine.
