Charles has been officially proclaimed King, as gun salutes and the national anthem rang out across St James’s Palace., where monarchs have been confirmed since the 1700s, following a meeting of the Accession Council.who died aged 96 on Tuesday
There, Charles described the “irreparable loss” of his mother the Queen, who was the nation’s longest reigning monarch after 70 years on the throne. Around 800 members of the public, who had been allowed into the Palace’s forecourt for the event, scrambled to take photographs as the Yeoman Warders took part in a military display.
Charles said that he was “very lucky to have her as a mother”, and recalled that as he started school, she had sent a note saying he should be treated the same as everyone else. In total, there are more than 750 Privy Council members, but only 200 had been invited to the Proclamation due to space constraints at St James’s Palace.
