The most expensive supermarket in the monthly price comparison was Waitrose
Consumer group Which? found that Aldi was the cheapest supermarket in a test comparing the price of a basket of 48 popular grocery items. Aldi was the cheapest overall, with the shop costing £77.21 on average - beating its rival discounter Lidl by £1.36.

At £104.11 on average, the same shop was £26.90 more expensive at Waitrose than at Aldi.Supermarket and average basket total Tobias Gruber, founder and CEO of My Community Finance, said: "It's excellent that Aldi continues to help Brits with the cost of living crisis by providing competitive prices.
"Food shopping around Christmas gets expensive. If you're heading out to do a big Christmas food shop this month, make sure you make a list, stick to it and don't be tempted to buy more than you need. Budgeting this Christmas is essential to ensure you don't start the new year with a debt hangover."
