The rally called for food security to be made a human right in the UK
Chanting children led the charge at a "hunger march" through the streets of Liverpool as hundreds of people rallied for the right to food.
Nine million adults experienced food insecurity in June 2023, with 3m of these reporting not eating all day, according to The Food Foundation. Some 23.4% of households with children reported experiencing food insecurity, compared with 14.8% of households without children.READ MORE: Can you recognise these Liverpool pubs with beer goggles on?
They showed their support for the Right to Food campaign's five key demands, recently presented in Parliament by Mr Byrne. These include: Universal free school meals, independent Right To Food legislation holding the Government to account, community kitchens including dining clubs and "meals-on-wheels" for the elderly and vulnerable, and ensured food security when setting other policies. It also calls on the Government to state how much of minimum wages and benefits is for food.
