One young person was moved 23 times before the age of four, and 40 times in total, the charity said. One move took him to an unknown area an hour away by train from his twin sister, who was the most important person in his life.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, chief executive of Become, a national charity for children in care and young care leavers “I came home from school one day and my social worker was there which raised red flags as it was very unusual for her to pop round at random,” she said. “When I walked in, they told me my placement had come to an end and that they would need to find me somewhere else to go, but that in the meantime, I was being moved to a children’s home in Blackpool for two weeks.”
“Even though this woman wasn’t being spiteful, I think people need to be mindful of the things they ask young people. I would never have got this in London as people were used to seeing people from all different ethnicities.” “However, I did well despite being in care, not because of it. My care home supported me the best they could, but I hardly ever heard from my social worker.
