They said the meat was destined for the bin
A Chinese takeaway has responded to concerns from passers-by who noticed raw meat had been left outside the eatery. The takeaway, which has a two-star hygiene rating, said the meat was destined for the bin despite fears it had been placed outside to defrost.
Raw meat in bowls had been placed outside the Dragon Wonder takeaway in High Street, Hucknall, on Wednesday, July 20. The sighting prompted concerns from those who spotted it. According to the Food Standards Agency the eatery has a two-star hygiene rating. It says food handling and management of food safety is "generally satisfactory" but "improvement is necessary" for the cleanliness and the condition of the building. The concerns over the bowls was put to Kim Wong, who works at the takeaway. She explained the circumstances surrounding the raw meat.
She told Nottinghamshire Live: "This is a long story. This food would usually be kept in the kitchen and what is happening is the new staff put the meat outside. "That meat is not going to be used. Over the last few days it has been hot and so the meat has a smell.Ms Wong says the manager of the takeaway speaks Mandarin and there may have been confusion with the new member of staff when they were asked to take the meat outside to the bin.The date of the last hygiene inspection was March 24 last year. Speaking of the two-star rating Ms Wong added: "Because it is an old building so it is a problem.
