Half of all staff working for Chorley and South Ribble councils will be employed in shared roles across both authorities - if the next phase of a plan for closer co-operation between the neighbouring boroughs gets the go-ahead.
Chorley leader Alistair Bradley said that property and assets was an area to which both councils “struggle to recruit to and retain staff”.
“I think it's fair to say we’ve seen benefits [like] financial savings [and] we’ve seen resilience in [shared service] teams. “We did stuff that we would do differently now, clearly. However, overwhelmingly, shared services has been a huge success for Chorley and South Ribble councils,” Cllr Foster stressed.
Both meetings heard that staff satisfaction was higher amongst workers fulfilling a shared role than for those still employed by just one of the two individual councils.
