The Tyrone native took over on an interim basis after Rory Gallagher stepped down prior to the Ulster final in May

Derry will have a new football manager in 2024 after Ciaran Meenagh has sensationally ruled himself out of the running to take the role on a permanent basis.

In a statement at the time, Gallagher said: "I have advised Derry GAA that I am stepping back as Derry senior football manager with immediate effect. This decision is borne out of a desire to protect my children from the ongoing turmoil. They will always be my priority."With Meenagh at the helm and Enda Muldoon remaining on in the backroom team, the Oak Leafers retained the Anglo Celt following a dramatic penalty shootout win over the Orchard County in Clones.

In the aftermath of their stellar showing against the Kingdom, it was believed that Meenagh had done more than enough to secure the position on a permanent basis. He is also the current manager of his native Loughmacrory and they begin their Tyrone SFC campaign next weekend against Trillick.
