Children in Fylde are now having to travel up to an hour for basic swimming lessons, one mum told us
For many in the Fylde coast town of Kirkham, the local swimming baths are a focal point of the community.
"The school curriculum is that they have to swim 25m by Year 6," Libby said. "So I think what they're trying to do is cut costs and get kids that can't do it to still go, which is brilliant that they're still doing that, but they're missing out on a load of kids that can only just swim 25 metres." On Kirkham's high street, we spoke to Samantha Edwards who was spending the day with her two young children in the town. She had no idea of its permanent closure and was visibly shocked and upset to hear that the decision had been made.
"It's really affected them. One of my ladies, her little girl has now got to get two buses to get to her swimming lessons. Where are we going to learn to swim now around here?"
