An organisation called Mid Pennine Arts wants to place a plaque about David Shackleton in Clitheroe
Clitheroe Castle grounds could become home to a plaque highlighting a Lancashire man from humble beginnings who became one of Britain’s first Labour MPs and later had leading roles in Parliament, the TUC and the civil service.
The trail was part of the Pendle Hill Project which Ribble Valley Council helped to support between 2018 and 2022, a new report for councillors states. It was led by the Pendle Hill Partnership which received lottery grant funding. The overall project included a host of landscape improvements, community, education, arts and heritage works.
“The trail developers believe these hugely influential historic figures have not been fully celebrated in the areas they come from, and the new ideas fit well with the figures who have been celebrated so far.”
