Sad news for punters
The closing date for a popular Wetherspoon's pub in Newark has been announced. There was surprise from locals back in March when the pub chain announced that The Sir John Arderne, in Church Street, would be calling time for good.
The pub’s final day will be Sunday August 20. Eddie Gershon, Wetherspoon's spokesman, said: "We acknowledge that the pub’s staff and customers will be disappointed with the decision. "All staff are being offered jobs at other Wetherspoon pubs. We thank our staff for their service over the years and our loyal customers for their custom."Wetherspoon does, on occasion close pubs for commercial reasons, and this is the situation here."
Last month the company revealed that a second pub, The Widow Frost in Mansfield, was under offer to an undisclosed buyer.
