She's spoken out about the disease which has ravaged her family
. According to the 58-year-old, she initially thought it was eczema. But medics told Coleen she had basal cell carcinoma on her shoulder and melanoma on her face.
The star told the ITV show it was only by chance she visited a dermatologist appointment six to seven months ago for a different problem. She decided to get her shoulder checked out on a whim. The dermatologist then diagnosed her with basal cell carcinoma after taking a look at the red skin on her shoulder. Coleen, who has a long history of cancer in her family, said she felt "guilty" when she had her scare as three of her sisters have or have had cancer.
But in the aftermath of revealing the news of her brush with cancer, the Nolan sister was inundated with concerned messages from friends and fans. She decided to take to Instagram to clear the air about the diagnosis, reports the ChronicleLive. Addressing fans, she said: “Firstly, can I put all your minds at ease; I don’t have dangerous skin cancer, because I found it in time. One of them on my shoulder was a carcinoma. That’s been cleared up, and I’ve got two little spots on my face which are pre-melanomas. So they would affect me much later on in life. If I don’t treat them now, they could turn into skin cancer much, much later on. So I am going to treat them.
Again urging anyone with any skin cancer concerns to book an appointment to get checked out, Coleen added: "My whole point of talking about it really was to raise awareness, because the problem with your skin – as with mine – is I’d kept thinking ‘It’s a bit of eczema. It’s a bit of dry skin.
