We can't fault the quality or the service
It comes as no surprise that three of Nottinghamshire's best restaurants appear in the Good Food Guide, a national round-up of the best places to eat. Two Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains and Alchemilla, a one star gem, both feature as does the charmingly elegant restaurant at Langar Hall.
It's been a while since I last visited, so a return was well overdue, thanks to the nudge from the Good Food Guide. When there's so many new venues opening in the city, it's easy to neglect the old-timers. The lunchtime section has deli platters showcasing some of the cheese, charcuterie and antipasti that can be bought in the shop. What the Good Food Guide describes as a "swag bag of global dishes" ranges from bruschetta with mortadella, burrata and basil pesto, to a burger with crispy pancetta and melted raclette.
I feel a bit of a fraud ordering a standard English breakfast tea when the menu has so many interesting sounding soft drinks such as strawberry mojito iced tea, Russet Apple juice and passionfruit ginger beer, not to mention speciality coffees and even wine and beer. The high ceiling and tall arched windows make it so light and airy, even on a dull day. A sparkling chandelier and ornate coving give a sense of grandeur, even though the atmosphere is quite laid back.
