Under the plans up to 2,150 homes would be built in the green belt in Hyde

Controversial plans to build more than 2,000 homes in the Hyde countryside are to go out to public consultation again ahead of a potential decision at the end of the year.

Under the plans up to 2,150 homes would be built to the north of Mottram Old Road, as well as ‘local centres’ which would include up to 1,300 sq m of retail, 1,600 sq m of commercial uses and 1,000 sq m of local community uses. These surveys, which cover ecology, ground, archaeology and transport, will need to be resubmitted as part of the application environmental statement. The town hall states it is aiming to complete the investigative works with partners to ‘finalise’ the planning application with the intention of submitting before the end of the year.In the previous consultation period there had been 3,471 objections against the proposals, compared to just 21 supporting letters.

Under the plans there will be a new one-form primary school created, sports facilities on land to the south of Mottram Old Road, and a bridge to Hattersley station that will provide a ‘direct link’ to the rail network.
