Controversial plans to fill popular 'Blue Lagoon' moorland beauty spot back on the agenda

A new planning application has been submitted for the redevelopment of Wards Reservoir in Belmont – popularly known as ‘The Blue Lagoon’. .

“This would generate sufficient income to cover the maintenance of the site as well as providing permanent occupation of an isolated site as a means of preventing vandalism. Vandalism of the reservoir infrastructure centred on the theft of the lining and spillway stone is one of the main reasons why the reservoir has been rendered unsafe.

“A recreational fishing lake will provide the necessary income. A building is required to accommodate essential facilities for anglers to enjoy a full day of fishing.
