Will they, won't they?
Alleged uncertainty over a torch-lit Clitheroe procession for King Charles’ coronation has sparked a wider row about the town’s politics between Conservatives and Lib-Dems at Ribble Valley Borough Council.
The official account from March, called the minutes, stated Coun Fletcher said he had never missed a town council meeting and, therefore, could say with confidence the town council was not consulted by the county council about the King Street work. The March minutes also stated that Coun Atkinson said Ribble Valley Council was not consulted. However, he would raise the topic of communication at future Lancashire-wide meetings.
Clitheroe Town Team is as a voluntary, apolitical, community-led group representing different organisations and interests, its website states. It has links to the borough council and its terms of reference are approved by the borough. The town council also looks after some allotments and play areas, environmental works , events, grants, town mayor work, Christmas town centre decorations and employs a workman. At the latest borough council meeting, Lib-Dem councillors, who are also on the town council, rejected Coun Horkin’s claims.
But Coun Horkin returned to coronation plans later in the meeting. He said: “I welcome the fact that recent coronation grants have been increased. Grindleton and West Bradford parish councils asked me to thank the [borough] council. However, I still think it is disappointing that we don’t have a torch-lit procession.
