Children's commissioner says it is time for the NI Assembly to take action to tackle rising costs.
The education minister and Northern Ireland Assembly must "step up" over the school uniform costs, the children's commissioner has said.She said legislation aimed at making uniforms cheaper had been passed elsewhere.Ms Yiasouma previously wrote to schools asking them to adopt an affordable uniform policy., she said policy was now needed to regulate costs with some secondary school uniforms ranging from £200 to almost £500.
Some schools require pupils to wear uniforms with branding which means generic items that may be less expensive cannot be used. "During the pandemic my son's PE top went from £5 to £17.99 overnight because it has a sports logo on it, I don't agree with that.Added cost She said the cost of one cardigan now equates to a three pack of generic cardigans she was able to purchase previously.She said she has had to make sacrifices because of the cost.
