Lancashire County Council plans to sell the building

Lancashire County Council has confirmed plans to shut down one if office buildings and relocate staff.

The authority is planning to move staff away from the Lancashire Place offices in Ormskirk town centre as part of efforts to offload the building. The authority pointed towards the increase in flexible working which began during the Covid-19 pandemic as a key factor. Staff were told this week that they would be relocated and will now be expected to travel to offices in either Skelmersdale or Preston. A spokesman for Lancashire County Council confirmed the decision to LancsLive. They said: "Due to changes in work patterns, service requirements and a move towards flexible working as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lancashire Place has not been fully utilised for some time.

"We have been talking to service managers to agree suitable solutions to accommodate their service delivery needs in alternative county council premises Skelmersdale and Preston, which they are now sharing with their teams. "The county council continues to be liable for property holding costs and as we don't have a significant need for office space in the Ormskirk area plans are underway to vacate the premises and declare surplus to the county council's operational requirements."
