Council struggle to give out £100k of work as they begin mammoth maintenance operation

Trades, property and facilities maintenance firms in Rossendale are being urged to submit bids for a forthcoming council maintenance contract estimated to be worth over £100,000.

Work to be considered under the contract include roofing, painting, brickwork, joinery, electrics, boiler installation, lighting, deep cleaning and car park resurfacing. Buildings include a swimming pool, offices and chapels. Locations earmarked for upkeep include Whitworth, Rawtenstall and Haslingden chapels, The Ashcroft, the Adrenaline Centre, Marl Pits swimming pool and Clare House.

At the cabinet meeting, Labour Coun Andrew Walmsley said: "Work is needed to keep council buildings, assets and car parks in good repair. Priorities include making buildings wind and weather-tight, health and safety factors and maintaining public-facing buildings and locations ." Labour Coun Alyson Barnes, who is Leader of Rossendale Council, said: "I hope this will also be publicised widely in social media and news media. At the moment, it is really difficult to drum-up interest from trades people. There needs to be pressure in that area."
