The Record previously revealed how SNP ministers are considering allowing local authorities to implement a 22 per cent hike in council tax on some properties.
The Scottish Government is facing a growing backlash against plans to hike council tax rates which could hit one in four households.
Edinburgh would be the hardest hit by the changes with more than 90,000 households paying more, compared to 49,501 in Glasgow. A public consultation on changes to council tax rates closes next month. "Now their new plan is to embed it, extend the lifetime of the current unfair system and hit almost a quarter of households with a massive extra bill at the worst possible time. These changes would see bills go up and services still cut. People would be paying more for less. It won’t offset the SNP/Green Government’s systematic underfunding of local government which has devastated essential local services.
It means someone living in a house worth £1m will not be charged a penny more than a person in a home valued at £213,000.
