One neighbour was afraid to leave the house

A house described by neighbours as a drug hotspot has been forced to close by a Nottinghamshire council. The property in St Mary's Way, Hucknall, has been linked to high levels of crime, anti-social behaviour and drug activity over the past few months, Ashfield District Council said.

Neighbours told Nottinghamshire Live it was a step in the right direction. Katherine Jones, who lives next door, said: “We moved on this road a year ago, so it has been going on for a year at least. You can hear cars going to that address all the time. It is a hotspot for drug dealers and all sorts of anti-social behaviour.”The 69 year old added: “But now it is a step forward in the right direction. Let’s just hope it stays this way.

Councillor John Wilmott, who represents Hucknall North and worked closely with officials to secure the order, described the house as a crime catalyst. "Over the past few months, we’ve really stepped up patrols on St Mary's Way, George Street and other local roads," said the Ashfield Independent councillor.
