Awful - the driver 'just left the scene' 🚲
Paul Stevenson decided to take his road bike out in the nice weather yesterday . Paul, who works in Universal Credit, hadn't used it for a while so performed all the necessary checks, including double-checking his tyres and making sure they were oiled and greased.
As the lights started to change, Paul gradually picked up a bit of pace as he was intending to carry on straight anyway, however, as he didn't know the direction the car in front was going, he assumed they were going straight on too. He added: "I assumed the car was going straight and then suddenly it started turning left.
"I was completely dazed and sore and I tried to hobble over to the side, but I wasn't really aware of what was going on. Although Paul was in a state of shock, he did realise the car had failed to stop after clipping him, something he claims the driver "would have realised" was going on. "Also, if they had their indicator on I would have known their intentions. Because I was coming to a stop, I couldn't have been going faster than five mph, but for some more experienced cyclists going faster, that could have been so much worse."
