The solar system’s second-largest planet should be visible with the naked eye as it reaches its closest point to Earth
as it reaches its closest point to Earth, known as opposition.With the ringed planet opposite the Sun, its face is fully illuminated,Saturn reaches opposition on Sunday 27 August. The best time to view it will be at around 1am .
Saturn comes to opposition almost once per year, however, Saturn’s orbit around the sun takes 29.4 Earth years.This leads to Saturn oppositions occurring roughly every 378 days.Starting this weekend, Saturn will enter opposition – making it appear bigger and brighter in the sky through February 2024! This opposition even allows us to spot the yellowish "star" in the sky with an unaided eye.
