'My mum became seriously ill after being neglected in a Leeds care home'
An elderly mum who was admitted to a Leeds care home became seriously ill after being neglected by care home staff, alleges her daughter.
Fiona West, her daughter, went to visit her mum in November 2017 when care home staff told her she was unwell. They had not yet called a doctor and said they would wait to see how she was in the morning, but when Ms West saw her she called an ambulance. She said: "She wouldn't have made tomorrow, as they worded it. She went into St James' and she was in there for 10 days with E. Coli.
"She'd gone without tablets for three months for her vascular dementia, she'd got constant water infection upon water infection. Her food was put in front of her and mum was at that stage where she couldn't feed herself, she didn't know what it was there for.Eventually Ms West took the care home to a tribunal for safeguarding where she says they were found on six counts including neglect, medication, abuse and nutrients.
