'I feel sick when I read accounts of my constituents who struggle to feed and clothe their children' | DavidLinden ✍️

The thought of any child living in poverty infuriates me, it angers me. As I’m sure it angers and infuriates you.

For my SNP colleagues in the Scottish Government in means implementing ground-breaking policies, such as the Baby Box, the Best Start grants and the ‘game-changing’ Scottish Child Payment.. I don’t see this as some far-flung fantasy or a political slogan we should merely aspire to. During his opening speech, Humza was clear that he will lead the Scottish Government to do everything in its powers, its limited powers, to shift the dial on child poverty.

It was only in February that the Scottish Government provided £8.6m in direct support for people affected by the UK benefit cap, which hopefully will mitigate the worst of the consequences. I am proud of the steps that the Scottish Government has taken to address child poverty, but the blunt truth is that we are continually being held back by the cruel Tory policies implemented in Westminster.
