Sir David Attenborough has paid tribute to the Queen
The monarch died at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon, aged 96. In a statement confirming her death Buckingham Palace wrote: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Her son Charles III has now been named King. In a statement released shortly after news of her death was announced, Charles III said: "Charles, the King, said: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.
“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.” A 10-day period of mourning began at midnight and will last until the Queen’s funeral. Also on Friday King Charles is expected to meet with Prime Minister Liz Truss today.
