The death of a soldier shot during a night-time training exercise was accidental, an inquest has found.
Private Conor McPherson, 24, had been moving toward a target at the Otterburn Training Area in Northumberland when he was struck by a bullet on August 26.
Pvt McPherson fell to the ground and, despite resuscitation attempts, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jurors returned just before lunchtime on Monday and concluded the death of Pvt McPherson was accidental. It was deemed ‘highly likely’ Pvt McPherson was killed by a fellow soldier who ‘mistook him for a target’
