While the tune is a great memory jogger , and you may wonder just why your 'true love' might send you eight maids-a-milking, it is the meanings of some of the gifts that has surprised modern day singers.
It turns out the line in the song means something completely different. The recipient wouldn't be the proud owner of a ring for every finger, instead, as one woman on Twitter pointed out, it is more birds!The social media user was spotted by Daily Record. The publication wrote that they revealed their findings by saying: "Learning that "five gooolden riings" is not in fact referring to 5 literal golden rings, but to five ring-necked pheasants, aka more birds".
