Delays of over an hour on M56 as roadworks cause chaos for second day running - latest updates

Yesterday there were delays of over 40 minutes on the same stretch as the roadworks rail strikes and the Eurovision final in Liverpool leaving scores of frustrated motorists stuck.Announcing news of the closures Highways England said: We're advising road users to use alternative routes during the closures and avoid the area if possible. Long delays are expected.Please be aware that the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Liverpool from Sunday 7 to Saturday 13 May. A range of activities are planned. Our advice to drivers travelling over the course of the event is to plan and allow extra time for journeys
