A former car repair centre in Blackpool has been demolished to make way for a proposed new car park which it is hoped will serve businesses in the area.
on Bond Street in South Shore. A planning application has been submitted to Blackpool Council seeking permission to build a 34 space car park on the site, close to the junction with Withnell Road. The proposed pay and display facility would be accessed from Bond Street, and include barriers, automatic number plate recognition cameras and lighting.The plans also show two electric vehicle charging points as part of the scheme. Hotelier Derek Robertson, of The Wilmar Hotel on Osborne Road, said he believed the development would be welcomed.
He said: “I think it’s a great idea as at popular times Blackpool can get very busy with visitors needing to park, so some people will see this as a bit of a improvement to South Shore. “I’m more concerned about the lack of shops and a post office in the Waterloo area. More investment is needed on Bond Street and Waterloo Road, but yes the proposed new car park will relieve parking issues during busy times.Previous plans to knock down the former Hartes store on the corner of Bond Street and Waterloo Road to create a 40 space car park have been turned down by the council.
