Dentists, vaping and domestic abuse - everything discussed at Wigan's latest council meeting

Lack of access to dentists, sales of vapes to underage children and domestic abuse were all discussed at Wigan's latest council meeting.

Coun Jones was referring to a court case in September 2022 in which he admitted to causing actual bodily harm to his wife. The hearing was told she needed stitches after the local politician threw a bag of rubbish, which contained a glass jar. In 2016, 65pc of children were seen, compared to 51pc last year, he said, adding: "The government must put NHS dentistry on a secure long-term footing, but in a way that enables our constituents, to see a dentist in a reasonable time frame, straight away if necessary and rewards our dental professionals in a manner that ensures they remain within the NHS family.

He said: "It is no shock to many of us that the use of off-road vehicles in our green spaces has been a long-standing issue and has become worse as access to such vehicles has become easier and more diverse. In this chamber, we have had motions and comments on the use of electric bikes and scooters which through GMP and other authorities is being discussed at a national level to see how we can tighten up licensing and regulation around this equipment so there is accountability.
