The midfielder is set to be out until the new year, but McInnes hopes to have him back for the festive run-in in December.

Kilmarnock's influential midfielder had to come off during their 1-1 draw at home to St Mirren on Saturday, with fears that he'd badly injured his hamstring.

The Killie boss said: “He was anticipating the scan results because it was quite high up, he’s had an issue with the other hamstring before and it’s a totally different kind of pain. “He’s a great boy, he’s never missed a training session and I actually wrestled with the idea of playing him three times in a week.
