Dr Nicholas Chapman, 55, of Taunton, Somerset, has been handed a community order after he was previously convicted of one count of attempting to engage in sexual activity without consent
following a trial at Gloucester Crown Court.The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, kept a sample of the drink and reported her concerns to the police in September 2021 after she became suspicious.A DNA match was then made to Chapman following tests carried out on the substance in the coffee, the court was told. Chapman denied putting semen in the coffee but was convicted by a jury last month.
“Obviously, drinking coffee is not a sexual act but drinking or ingesting semen usually is. In your case, as the jury clearly and rightly found, your purpose in attempting to get her to ingest your semen was to gain sexual gratification for yourself and that purpose rendered the act a sexual one.” The judge told Chapman his offending was a “despicable act” which had resulted in the doctor “telling lies to save your skin, however absurd those lies may be”.
In a victim personal statement read to the court by Richard Posner, prosecuting, the woman said she had been forced to undergo testing at a sexual health clinic and described being physically sick after the sample testing was confirmed.The woman said: “The devious and cowardly nature has shocked me. If this was a physical attack I may have, at least, had a chance to defend myself.
“He has lost the career and reputation and standing within the local community, he has lost his good character,” she said.
