Dr Surya Dhulipala said her errors in caring for Finnley Morris at Blackpool Victoria Hospital 'should never happen again'
A doctor whose mistakes led to the death of a new-born baby boy broke down in tears as she said she was 'deeply, deeply sorry'. Finnley Morris was left without oxygen for more than 50 minutes after Dr Surya Dhulipala failed to insert a breathing tube him after he was born, LancsLive reports.
A coroner concluded in 2021 that Finnley had been neglected by medics at Blackpool Victoria and said that it not been for the missed opportunities to treat Finnley he would have survived. This week the General Medical Council, which is responsible for the register of medical practitioners in the UK, has brought a case of impairment by reason of misconduct against Dr Dhulipala.
Dr Dhulipala's legal representative, Richard Partridge, asked her if she wanted to expand on her witness statement in which she had 'expressed her apology for Finnley'. She replied: "I'm deeply, deeply sorry for what happened but I know 'sorry' won't undo what has happened.
