Dog owners could be slapped with a £100 fine for not carrying poo bags or keeping their dog on a lead under new plans being considered by West Northamptonshire Council . The plans come after a six-week public consultation in the spring.
The new Public Spaces Protection Order across the Daventry and South Northants will be discussed at the council’s next Cabinet meeting at 6pm on September 13. If agreed by Councillors, the PSPO will apply across both Daventry and South Northants for three years until September 2025. In the draft order, dog owners will not be allowed to take their dogs within 50 metres of a school, or go in a car park without using a lead. It also reads, "being unaware of the defecation or not having a device for or other suitable means of removing the faeces shall not be a reasonable excuse for failing to remove the faeces."
