Manchester City faced West Ham at the London Stadium looking to stay top of the Premier League.
Jeremy Doku was frustrated by his own admission after failing to get among the scorers or assisters on his Manchester City debut against Fulham a fortnight ago.
After his debut, Doku predicted that playing alongside Erling Haaland would be easy, saying: "He scores everything. He doesn't need a lot of chances to score." But that theory was tested after Haaland got barely anything on Doku's good cross from just two yards out. Haaland had already missed two other presentable chances on a day that just wasn't his.
When Doku swapped wings with Phil Foden against Fulham, he looked far better on the left than the right, and he continued on the left wing in Jack Grealish's absence at West Ham. Rather than Nathan Ake in support, it was Josko Gvardiol at the London Stadium - possibly picked for his ability to push into midfield after talking up his past as a number six over the international break.
With just three days of training under Guardiola, Doku was giving City a flavour of what Grealish usually offers on the left, with some added directness and more of a willingness to drive into the box. It was a performance that offered plenty of promise for his City career going forward.
