There’s admiration by many senior Labour figures for Starmer’s self-described ‘ruthlessness’
In the past six months, business leaders, universities and major charities have undertaken an arms race to hire well-connected figures in the Labour Party in their institutions. Last year’s Labour conference in September was notable for the proliferation of business-sponsored receptions, where lobbyists for big money compete to soak shadow ministers with champagne.

One of the key announcements from September’s conference was Labour’s promise to “completely reimagine the childcare system”, tackling one of Britain’s biggest social and economic crises.
How does all this affect the numbers? Despite some spin about Labour’s poll lead narrowing, recent polls for both Opinium and Ipsos Mori still show Labour with a comfortable lead over the Conservatives as the most popular party were an election held tomorrow.
