, casting the country’s transition to democracy into doubt.

The RSF claimed to have seized the presidential palace, army chief’s residence, state television station and airports in Khartoum, along with the northern city of Merowe, El Fasher and West Darfur state. The army rejected their assertions. By the end of the day, the military issued a statement ruling out negotiations with the RSF, instead calling for the dismantling of what it called a “rebellious militia”.
