Dr Aaron Beck, an American psychiatrist considered the father of cognitive behavioural therapy, has died aged 100.
Dr Beck's work is considered hugely influential. He published hundreds of articles and 25 books in his career. Dr Beck died peacefully at home on Monday morning, according to a statement from the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy that he and his daughter co-founded. After his initial training, Dr Beck began to question the basis of typical Freudian psychoanalysis which focused on uncovering conflicts buried within people's pasts.
