A driver fleeing uniformed Secret Service officer allegedly struck several pedestrians and killed an elderly man near the White House.
The Secret Service officer did not pursue the driver, Mayhair said. As of Wednesday, the suspect remained at large.A vehicle with that license plate number had three speeding tickets that were not paid and had fines that add up to $720, according to the DC Department of Motor Vehicles website.
The speeding tickets included an August 2022 violation for going 16 to 20 mph over the limit on the 1300 block of H Street NE, and January 2022 and April 2021 violations for going 11 to 15 mph over the limit in Southeast Washington.The incident occurred near the National Mall, next to the White House and the Capitol building.Kevin Hollerbach, who works for the US Environmental Protection Agency and shared an image from the scene as well as the vehicle’s violations.
