UK tourists holidaying in parts of France this summer could be fined if they don’t buy and display an emission sticker on their car.
The RAC warned drivers heading across the channel the number of areas that require drivers to show a Crit’Air sticker has risen over the past 12 months.Motorists who do not display a sticker risk being fined 68 euros , which increases to 180 euros if not paid within 45 days.The sticker, which costs 4.61 euros must be ordered in advance from aThe RAC urged drivers to avoid third-party websites which charge up to six times as much.
The RAC warned other European countries such as Spain and Switzerland also have strict emissions regulations. RAC spokesman Rod Dennis said: ‘Many UK drivers will be familiar with clean air zones such as London’s ultra low emission zone, but they should also be ready to encounter them abroad this summer.‘It’s vital anyone travelling to Europe does their homework to see whether an emissions-based windscreen sticker is needed – and give themselves enough time to order one before their trip.
