Durham police looked into the incident in February and found no rules were broken, but are being urged by a Conservative MP to look at the matter again.
The impression of information dripping out has not been helpful to Sir Keir, or the fact that he would not say in an interview this morning whether police had contacted him again. Labour sources have since said they haven't. One election expert, Lord Hayward, has said that the focus on Beergate risks dissipating the impact of Partygate with voters.
Asked if he would like to issue any further clarification on what took place, the Labour leader continued:"There was no party, no breach of the rules.
