Not everyone has got the money today
The Department for Work and Pensions has addressed questions on whether there is a priority to the rollout of its first cost of living payment.
Read more: Huddersfield mum says daughter is not safe at school after violent attack caught on camera A spokesperson for the Department for Work and Pensions said: "There's no particular order but we're working hard to pay everyone eligible as soon as possible." DWP guidance states those eligible for the cash do not need to apply for it or "do anything" at all. "Payments made during this window will be staggered over the next couple of weeks...", the guidance continues.
The payment is entirely different to a person's usual benefits and therefore will not appear on their online benefits statement, the DWP said. It will appear in the same bank account that other benefits are paid into and will have a special code alongside it to make it easily identifiable.
