Home And Away actor Joel McIlroy, who has been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, is currently facing the possibility of spending years behind bars for damaging property

Home And Away actor Joel McIlroy, who is suffering from a brain disease, is currently facing the possibility of spending years behind bars as he faces allegations that he intentionally, or recklessly, destroyed property in a Sydney suburb earlier this year.

Since leaving the soap, Joel has been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease which is a neurological condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time, and is inherited from a person's parents. The actor’s lawyer addressed the court and discussed that Joel could avoid prison time as there would be an application for the charges to be dealt with under section 14 of the Mental Health Act.
