The Home Office says that rolling out wider use of electronic passport gates will ensure ‘smoother travel for families’ through UK border this summer SophieLamTravel reports
Automated border control gates are currently available to over-12s arriving in the UK, but from Monday 24 July will be more widely available for the peak summer holiday after successful trials at the country’s three busiest airports.
There are 293 e-gates across the UK, which can be used by passengers with a biometric symbol on their passport cover and who are British citizens or a national of an EU country, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland or the US. Those travelling with an ID card cannot use e-gates.
