Quick-thinking Colin Pettigrew leapt into action during Friday morning’s drama in Drongan

A council worker is tonight being hailed a “true hero” after saving an unconscious woman trapped in a fire — then calming fitting a bath panel at his next job.The selfless joiner grabbed his ladder and scaled the first floor of the property before reaching the woman inside.Cool Colin, though, shrugged off his heroics and admitted he had another job to go to.

"As the emergency services had already been called, Colin felt he could do no more, so he put his ladder back on the van and preceded to travel to his next job. And Blair Miller, head of housing and communities said: "What Colin did was amazing, we really admire how well and calmly he handled the situation and then went on to finish the job in hand.Doon Valley Ward 9 Councillor Drew Filson issued this statement on social media, saying: “Huge shout out to council joiner Colin Pettigrew, from Dalmellington, for his act of bravery in saving a woman’s life from a burning house in Drongan.
